Samuel Johnson's Resume
Summary
I have research and industry experience in the application and development of computation fluid dynamics (CFD) methods for modeling engineering systems. While my primary experience is in the area of multiphase flows, I have a general interest in numerical analysis.
Work Experience
CFD Analyst
Analysis and Design Applications Company (CD-adapco) 6/06 to Present
I currently work for CD-adapco where my principle duties are the thermal and fluid analysis engineering systems from the automotive, marine, energy and other industries, with my employer's state-of-the-art software, and clusters.
Postdoctoral Scholar/ Lecturer
University of California-Davis, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department and the Center for Computational Science and Engineering 2/05 to 11/06
As a lecturer I taught an introductory course in thermodynamics to undergraduate engineering students and taugh a number of classes for an introductory fluid mechanics course.
In my role as a postdoctoral scholar, a parallel implementation of the volume of fluid (VOF) method with adaptive curvature-based refinement with spray-bases materials processing applications, and conducted research on an Eulerian mist model for fire supression. I was also privaledged to work with graduate and undergraduate researchers on Lagrangian spray models with application for fire supression and contagion spreading through a sneeze.
Graduate Research Assistant
Los Alamos National Laboratory Computational and Computer Science Division: 5/03 to 8/03 and 5/02/-8/02
As a research assistant, I was able to work with a wonderful team in the CCS-2 group on The Telluride Project: a largescale parallel code intended for the simulation of fluid flows involved in casting processes. Specifically, I investigated causes and solutions for numerically induced spurious currents and anisotropy from the treatment of the fluid interfaces.
Graduate Research Assistant
Colorado School of Mines, Division of Engineering: 8/99 to 1/05
During my time as a research assistant in the Center for Combustion and Environmental Research I primarily worked on the developement of a spray-based strip casting process in partnership with the University of California, Irvine, and the Idaho National Laboratory. I worked primarily on the develpment and application of numerical and analytical models to support the project. These models included two and three dimensional interfacial flow solvers with heat transfer and phase change (solidification), an analytical model describing oblique droplet impacts and a Lagrangian spray model, which was also applied to a fire supression application.
